"FU ZHI" Luck has arrived

Fusing the best of Chinese culture with contemporary elements of style, the collection, incorporated ready to wear for men, women and kids, along with accessories and home décor.

Models Mashoom Singha and Andressa modeled dresses from the latest Autumn line of Shanghai Tang. Some of the guests who dropped in at the select preview over wine and cheese hosted by Mr. Samir Modi, Managing Director, Modi Enterprises with wife Shivani Modi and Devaunshi Mehta at Articullate Art gallery included Yash & Avanti Birla, Hasina Jethmalani, Surily Goel, Sunil & Maya Alagh, Lalit Modi, Anoop Mehta, Ashish Goel, DP Goel, Amit Gaur, Nina Manuel, Mallika Sagar Advani, Nisha Jamwal, Anil Dharker, etc. guests exclaimed over the collection with Chinese motifs and especially the accessories.

Shanghai Tang's fundamental design concept is inspired by traditional Chinese motifs combined with the modernity and dynamism of the 21st century. Like all the major international brands, Shanghai Tang has flagship boutiques in the shopping capitals of the world. However, its message is unique and remarkable: Shanghai Tang creates luxurious, modern Chinese chic with themes deeply rooted in ancient and authentic Chinese culture, from calligraphy to The Silk Road to Chinese contemporary art. While Shanghai Tang does not currently have any freestanding boutiques in India, the brand is nonetheless a household name amongst all the fashion conscious, globetrotting and cosmopolitan Indians.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Samir Modi, Managing Director, Modi Enterprises – the Indian promoters of Shanghai Tang, said "Shanghai Tang has a very select and niche clientele and is popular amongst connoisseurs of fashion. Their clothes and accessories are perfectly suited to Indian tastes as they are a fusion of Western cuts and Oriental detailing. Via this trunk show, we are not only able to bring Shanghai Tang to its regular clients, but at the same time introduce the brand to a larger section of the niche luxury market."

Fall/Winter 2008 Collection – 'Fu Zhi '
With the release of "Fu Zhi", the Autumn/Winter 2008 "Luck" Collection, Shanghai Tang brings one of the most unique and ever present elements of Chinese culture to the global fashion scene.

The collection combines uniquely whimsical print patterns with flattering silhouettes that translate the rich cultural elements of Chinese Luck into modern, wearable and distinctively Shanghai Tang pieces.

The strong traditions, written characters and symbolic behavioral traits of luck symbols pervade modern day Chinese lives, therefore it is an ideal source of inspiration for the latest Shanghai Tang's latest Ready-to-Wear Collection, depicted by the upside down character "FU", a rebus for "Luck has Arrived!"

The collection's references to Chinese folk arts, which preserve the historical foundations of luck, translate into silhouettes that are distinctively 60's and architectural in form and print pattern design that feature jacquard with lurex, ombre brocade and laser cutting. The knitwear pieces are highlighted with symbolic oversized knotting.
The four distinct patterns that define the collection are the "Ingot" Print, "Papercut" Print, "Luck Mosaic" Print, and the "Bubblefish" Print.
